Floridita Dance Etiquette

At Floridita Dance, we strive to create a warm, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all dancers. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with our etiquette guidelines, designed to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

General Etiquette

  • Check-In and Level Assessment:
Upon arrival, if you are unsure of your class level, please check in with your instructor. This helps ensure you are placed in the most suitable group for your learning and enjoyment.

  • Partnerwork and Rotation:
In partnerwork classes, rotation is standard practice as it enhances learning and helps everyone progress. If you prefer not to rotate, please inform the instructors before the class begins.

  • Respecting Instructor Guidance:
If your instructor suggests moving up or down a level, please understand this is to support your development at the most appropriate pace.

  • Personal Belongings:
Kindly store bags, coats, and other personal items in the designated area to keep the dance floor clear and safe for all.

  • Photography and Filming:
Classes and events may occasionally be photographed or filmed for promotional purposes. If you would prefer not to appear in any images or videos, please let the camera operator or an instructor know in advance.

  • Behaviour and Attire:
Dangerous, disruptive, or offensive behaviour, as well as attire that could cause injury, will not be tolerated. The use of abusive substances or drugs at Floridita Dance is strictly prohibited.

  • Comfort and Communication:
If someone’s behaviour makes you feel persistently uncomfortable, you are encouraged to express your concerns to them directly if you feel able. Otherwise, please speak to an instructor, who will be happy to assist.

  • Diversity and Inclusion:
Floridita Dance is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Treat everyone with dignity and respect at all times. Any form of prejudice, discrimination, or racial slander is strictly forbidden.

Health & Hygiene

  • Feeling Unwell:
If you are unwell or experiencing symptoms of illness, please stay at home to protect the wellbeing of others.

  • Hand Hygiene:
Regularly sanitise your hands, especially between classes and before partnerwork.

  • Face Coverings:
Masks are optional. Please respect the choices of others regarding mask usage.

  • Personal Freshness:
Good personal hygiene is essential. Bring extra shirts, deodorant, and breath mints as needed. Consider carrying a small towel or wet wipes to freshen up during or between dances.

Social Dance Etiquette

  • Personal Space and Consent:
Salsa and Bachata can involve close contact, especially in Bachata. Always be mindful of your partner’s personal space and ensure they are comfortable with the level of closeness. Never assume consent for close holds—if in doubt, ask.

  • Inviting and Declining Dances:
Always invite others to dance politely; never pull or pressure anyone onto the floor. If someone declines your invitation, accept graciously—there are always more opportunities to dance.

  • Gratitude:
Thank your partner after each dance. A simple “thank you” goes a long way in creating a friendly atmosphere.

  • Rejection:
Not everyone will want to dance at every moment. Do not take it personally if someone declines. Respect their decision and perhaps ask again later, or invite someone else to dance.

  • Hygiene During Socials:
Bring a spare shirt, deodorant, or breath mints to maintain freshness throughout the evening. Using a small towel or face cloth to wipe away sweat is encouraged, particularly during busy events.

  • Footwear:
Wear appropriate dance shoes to protect your feet and those of your partners.

  • Support and Kindness:
Be supportive and encouraging to dancers of all levels. Remember, everyone was a beginner once, and dancing with a variety of partners helps everyone improve.

  • Safety on the Dance Floor:
Please refrain from performing dips, tricks, or other risky moves during social dancing. Save these for performances or when you have your partner’s explicit consent and sufficient space.

By following these guidelines, we can all contribute to a welcoming, respectful, and enjoyable environment at Floridita Dance. Thank you for helping to make our community a wonderful place to dance!

Starting Monday, January 13th, all classes will resume.
